Industrial Steam Trap Rebates Now Available

Nicor Gas recently expanded their Energy Efficiency Program and now offers cash rebates to eligible customers for repair or replacement of existing low and high pressure Industrial/Process Steam Traps.  To qualify for the rebate program, existing steam traps located on a process steam system must be failed leaking or blowing-through, and operating at >7,500 hours/year.  Repairs and/or replacments must be completed October 7, 2011 through May 31, 2014.  Rebates available:

  • $150 cash rebates for low pressure steam traps with an operating pressure of <15 psig
  • $200 cash rebates for high pressure steam traps with an operating pressure of >15 psig

Applications for this program must include record of a third party steam trap survey showing:

  • Site Address
  • Survey Date
  • Number of Traps Tested
  • Number of Failed Traps
  • Type of Trap Failures (such as blocked or leaking/blow through by steam trap)

Rebates are paid on a per steam trap basis and will not exceed the total cost of the repair or replacement.  Total cost considerations include equipment, materials and external labor.

Steam traps last approximately 6 years and require periodic inspection and maintenance to ensure proper operation.  Steam traps can fail in either an open or closed mode.  If closed or blocked, steam tarps can cause lower system performance issues because of condensate buildup in the steam space.  If open or leaking, steam traps may allow excess steam to escape which increases the amount of steam that must be generated  to meet end use requirements.

Affiliated Steam and Hot Water, located in Alsip, IL, is ready to assist you in qualifying and securing these rebates through the inspection and repair or replacement of your steam traps.  For more information
