"Saturation Point" Reached During Recent Seminar
Three of the largest Ill., universities recently participated in a live Steam and Condensate Optimization Training at the University of Ill. in Champaign in an effort to improve energy conservation and optimize utilities management.
Over 49 university officials attended the training conducted by representatives from Affiliated Steam and Hot Water, located in Alsip, Ill., and Armstrong International of Three Rivers, Mich.

Universities officials included utilities engineers, facilities groups, pipefitters and steam distribution personnel from Eastern Illinois University, Illinois State University and the University of Ill.
The live Steam and Condensate Optimization training focused on steam basics and progressed into heat exchangers, steam and trapping, hot water and condensation management.
This training was important help implement the University of Illinois’s new agenda to reemphasize steam management and utility optimization for university according to Paul Brandon, outside sales engineer with Affiliated Steam and Hot Water who helped organize and conduct the event.
The training was difficult and the summer heat didn’t help things as temperature heat index rose above 117 degrees. Since this was an outdoor training conducted in an open-air trailer-like classroom, some attendees probably felt as if they were inside a steam boiler instead.
“Even though it was very hot, participation was strong and everybody was engaged,” said Brandon. “All 49 attendees returned after lunch which says a lot about the training,” he said.
Live Steam Demonstrations are available for universities, hospitals and other industrial institutions and can be scheduled simply by calling Affiliated Steam and Hot Water. For more information or to schedule training please call April LeClaire at 800-424-5392.
